NEET PG closing ranks: read the history clearly

Understand opening and closing ranks, seat categories and counselling rounds before comparing colleges.

What is a closing rank?

For a defined college, course, allotted seat category, quota, year and round, the closing rank is the highest numerical rank recorded in that allotment group. The opening rank is the lowest. A smaller AIR is a better rank; an option closing at AIR 20,000 has historically reached further down the rank list than one closing at AIR 10,000.

A recorded allotment is not proof of final joining. It also does not say how many seats will be available in a later year.

Compare like with like

  • Rank scale: MCC comparisons use NEET PG AIR. UP state merit rank is a different scale, even when an AIR is used to estimate it.
  • Course: match the degree and speciality, not just the college name.
  • Quota and category: an allotted-seat category describes the seat. It is not necessarily the candidate’s category.
  • Round and year: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and Stray have different participation and availability conditions.

Why cutoffs move

Seat availability, eligibility, fees, candidate preferences, upgrades and participation can change from one round or year to another. A late-round cutoff can be based on a single allotment. It should not be treated as a recurring opening or a general eligibility rule.

Read more than one year and round where the data supports it. A missing observation means no exact matching record in the supplied data; it does not prove the course was never offered.

How RankGood presents the evidence

The AIQ guide compares your rank with a three-year historical model. The UP guide uses its supplied 2025 round-wise state data. The main result table shows a recorded 2025 closing rank for the supporting round. Safe, Moderate and Ambitious describe historical support, not admission probabilities.

Open the + History button to see recorded 2025 opening and closing ranks by round. Your PDF report includes the results your access allows. Existing evidence ordering is not a recommended official choice-filling order.

Use the college predictor

Before you fill choices

Confirm current offerings in the official seat matrix, your eligibility, the round’s rules, and current college costs. Order colleges by your willingness to join. Keep a broader set of acceptable options rather than relying on one historic closing rank.
